EGG RETRIEVAL AND STIMULATION

The first step behind the production of a designer baby is the ‘egg retrieval’. This is the starting process and involves follicle (or possible egg) stimulation in a woman and later follicle aspiration. In a sense, a woman needs the right hormonal balance, creating the perfect environment for egg production the harvesting of the eggs. The usual process of ovulation involves the same hormones and follicle stimulation but only one egg is released. However, artificial fertilisation has higher chances of working if a greater number of eggs are available for contact with the sperm.

Follicle stimulation is very important.  Usually the fertility doctor, or endocrinologist, will give the semi-expectant  mother a series of medications. These are Clomid (which helps to mature the eggs), hMG (which fast-forwards the ovulation cycle) and FSH.
